Harvey

 Harvey was a kill pen horse. He was owned by a kill buyer who had them on their lot. He was only 4 years old. He is presumed to be a Paint pony; he is 14.1 hands. He is said to be broke to ride, but since he was so thin and absolutely terrified when he arrived, we have been working very slow with him. We know no past history on him. All we DO know… is he is a sweet doll! He aims to please and tries so hard even if he is scared! We normally do not take kill pen horses, we believe as sad as it is, it is a vicious cycle where kill buyers know you will feel bad for a horse, jack up the price and then sell it to sad people. This then pads their pockets to go buy even more meat for their trucks, that they wont advertise or show people, and on the cycle goes. But there was a mutual friend that we trusted on the ground actually touching Harvey (originally known as tag 9030) and this prompted a rescue effort by a group of mutual friends; they asked if they could raise all the money for his bail and transport from Texas, if we would take him at the sanctuary… I couldn’t say no. They raised all the money and less than a month later, Harvey was at our door!

Harvey does not have any special requirements at this time. He receives the following routine care:

Daily Hay (orchard/alfalfa)

Daily Aloe/MSM Joint & Gut Supplement by PEN

Daily SmartPak Compressed Garlic (fly control and general health)

Daily Summer Fly Spray

Every 5 week Farrier visit for trim

Biannual Vaccines

Yearly veterinary care average for a healthy horse
