This question comes up a lot! So don’t ever be put off in asking, let me explain…
The farm's new name came from the magical horse like creatures imagined by J.K. Rowling in her Harry Potter Series and then Fantastic Beasts. The Thestral (pictured above, pronounced Theh-struhl) is introduced in Book 4, The Goblet of Fire, as the 4th years are taken from the Hogwarts Express to the castle. They pull the carriages that take them to the main hall of the school. To most students, it appears that the carriages are moving on their own, as the Thestral is invisible. But it’s found that only Harry and a friend that becomes another main character as the story evolves, Luna Lovegood, can see them because they can only be seen… after seeing death. The Thestrals make many smaller appearances again through out the series. However, another famous scene is in Book 6 when The Order of the Phoenix is attempting to permanently remove Harry and relocate him from his infamous and ugly “adopted family,” at Number 4 Privet Drive. The entire order arrives and forms a plan to turn several members in to identical Harry’s (with polyjuice potion) in order to trick the death eaters that they know will immediately take chase and try to kill Harry. An epic mid air battle ensues with half the Order on brooms and the Other half on Thestrals. Again in Fantastic Beasts, the Thestrals appear in Crimes of Grindelwald within the opening sequence as they fly with a majestic carriage through a stormy sky, transporting the story's villain. Another epic and opening, mid-air battle here sets the story for the rest of the movie and book. Grindelwald escapes his Thestral prison transport; chaos ensures.
The owners of the new home are big fans of J.K. Rowling and her series of books that have no limits or bounds to her mystical creature imagination. At the farm, we have many unique animals and always have; I user to be a zoo keeper, so comes with the territory. We believe the care of these "magical creatures" is a gift. We are thankful and blessed to be able to care for them in such a fantastic environment.
